Since we at TWIST Filmproduktion Düsseldorf began producing films, our approach has always been to show more than just beautiful images. We aim to give these images depth and emotion. This approach was also central to our “AML” film production. The inspiration for this particularly aesthetic project came from the last member of the Medici dynasty, Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici. She was the wife of Elector Johann Wilhelm and brought art and architecture from Florence to Düsseldorf. This project is a tribute to this beautiful and mysterious woman, who continues to fascinate and inspire people to this day. With this film, we ventured a modern interpretation without directly portraying Anna Maria herself.

The film depicts Anna Maria Luisa in three different states. It begins with Anna: regal, proud, self-assured, and somewhat arrogant. But this is only a facade, which gradually starts to crumble. In a false and deceitful world, she is overtaken by madness, longing to escape her own body. She becomes Maria, desperately seeking support but unable to find it. As the situation intensifies, she finally finds redemption in the beauty of art. The result is a balanced Luisa, in harmony with herself and her surroundings.

In collaboration with our network and partners who supported us during production, we were able to cover all aspects of the film as an all-in-one production company, ensuring a smooth workflow. We spared no effort and worked exclusively with the highest-quality equipment, including the ARRI Alexa Mini. Additionally, we enhanced our visuals with various accessories, such as a camera crane, to give the images a unique expression.

For styling, we received support from the fashion house Breuninger, where we selected outfits for all three personas of the main character, expertly coordinated by Andrés Megia. Jewelry from Catherine Sauvage and hair & makeup by Elisa Schlütter completed the look, perfectly styling our model Dalia for each character.
