Jacques Tilly has become an inseparable part of Düsseldorf. As a sculptor and carnival float designer, he has made a name for himself and is now celebrated worldwide for his extraordinary creations. In close collaboration with Fortuna Düsseldorf, the artist developed the design for the new 2022 special jersey. TWIST Filmproduktion from Düsseldorf documented the jersey’s design process on camera, producing a dynamic video that highlights both the story behind it and its strong connection to the city.

From concept to post-production, we handled every step of the film production. We didn’t just shoot in Jacques Tilly’s legendary workshop. The special jersey was also filmed against a greenscreen so it could be animated and enhanced with dynamic elements in post-production. Tilly’s attention to detail was captured using specialized macro lenses, allowing viewers to experience the creation of the jersey up close.

Jersey Animation

At the end of the film, we integrated the finished special jersey through a combination of live-action footage and animation. To achieve this, we spun the jersey 360° in front of a greenscreen. To add extra dynamism, the symbols and illustrations on the jersey were animated separately and then tracked into the final shots. The drawings, which symbolize the Rhine, come to life as a lively “hidden object” scene. This allowed us to give the film a polished and compelling finale. We are thrilled that, as a commercial film production, we could give this unique project its well-deserved stage with an equally exceptional film.
